Addiction Is A Family Disease

Updated: Jul 15, 2021

Lori Ziolkowski - Families Against Narcotics

Professor Lori Ziolkowski discusses how her daughter’s overdose, battle with addiction and recovery affected the whole family. This journey was filled with worry, guilt, and grief, but with knowledge, resources and support, they were able to heal as a family and implement programs to help others, like Hope Not Handcuffs, the ComeBack Quick Response Teams, and Family Recovery Coaches.

After her daughter’s overdose, Lori began speaking out on campus and in the community. She launched the Great Lakes Bay Region chapter of Families Against Narcotics (FAN) in October 2017, and serves as the MidMichigan FAN Regional Director. Since then, she has implemented additional innovative programs like the Hope Not Handcuffs program and the ComeBack Quick response team.
